METRO AG Seeks Personalities - Group wants to attract young talents into the trade with Meeting Metro 2002

First-time invitation to students to the event at the Düsseldorf Rheinterrassen on 15 January 2002

METRO AG, Düsseldorf, is making a stand at a time of general job cuts and goes new ways in personnel marketing: With its first info event Meeting Metro 2002 Europes third largest trading group is specifically seeking to establish contact to students and graduates. The Metro Group that creates thousands of new jobs worldwide every year in the context of its international expansion presented itself with ‚Meeting Metro 2002’ as an attractive and sophisticated employer: At Düsseldorf’s Rheinterrassen sales divisions of the group like Metro Cash & Carry, Media Markt, Saturn or Kaufhof showed the diverse future perspectives and numerous job opportunities that they have to offer at home and abroad. Zygmunt Mierdorf, Member of the Executive Board and Director of Industrial Relations at METRO AG, explained on the occasion of the event: „With ‚Meeting Metro 2002’ we are appealing to personalities who are expected to support us in our international growth. The performance and dedication of our employees are the most important assets to secure the corporate success of the Metro Group – also in the future.“ Since early November an overwhelmingly large number of interested parties – some 1,500 students and university graduates – applied to participate in the event under www.meeting-metro.de. The roughly 400 participants were assisted by staff from the different divisions of the group – from the trainee to the general manager – in familiarizing themselves with the diversity of trading as a profession on the basis of practical examples. The sales divisions presented themselves in a ‚tangible’ way, far removed from the usual style of presentation at recruiting fairs. A market place specially created for the event served as a meeting point and a contact and information exchange thus providing an open stage for the transparent presentation of the Metro sales divisions. In talks and actions the prospective job candidates found out about group-wide, international development perspectives under the umbrella of METRO AG. In the process, they were also able to experience at first hand why trading as a profession offers a whole host of exciting and sophisticated tasks particularly for young talents.
