Metro Cash&Carry Opens Seventh Store in China

Metro Cash&Carry GmbH, domiciled in Düsseldorf, is opening its seventh cash and carry store in China today, on 27 July 2000.

The store in Fuzhou, the capital of the southern Chinese province Fujian, is open exclusively to professional customers, as is usual with Metro Cash&Carry. METRO AG will continue to accelerate its massive expansion in China. One hundred cities in China have a population of more than one million. Expansion will also comprise the large urban centers in the western part of the nation. In the next few years Metro Cash&Carry GmbH will open eight to ten cash and carry stores annually in the People’s Republic of China. The next opening is scheduled at the end of August in Shanghai, where Metro Cash&Carry already successfully operates three stores. Metro Cash&Carry operates 346 stores in 19 countries. Sales in 1999 amounted to DM 38.0 billion. The company employs more than 56,000 people worldwide.
