DM 1.25 million in aid for Turkey - METRO AG helps earthquake victims
Construction of a rehabilitation center in Izmit
METRO AG, Cologne has donated a total of DM 1.25 million as humanitarian aid for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey.
Three weeks after the earthquake, many victims are still in shock. METRO AG and its Turkish subsidiaries want to assist in building a center for the care of traumatized children, in order to alleviate the children’s distress.
In coordination with the Turkish authorities, METRO AG is providing DM 500,000 for the construction of the rehabilitation center in Izmit.
Immediately after the earthquake, the METRO sales formats real, Praktiker and METRO Cash & Carry had already donated goods valued at DM 500,000.
Kaufhof Warenhaus AG, likewise a subsidiary of METRO AG, donated DM 250,000 at the beginning of September. This sum will be used to erect as many emergency housing units as possible in the area hit by the earthquake.
Turkey is one of the focus countries for the international expansion of METRO AG, which employs a total of 2,700 staff in Turkey.
