Thomas Unger to be New CFO of METRO AG

The Supervisory Board of METRO AG in its ordinary meeting on 30 July 2002 appointed Thomas Unger (41) a Member of the Executive Board of METRO AG.

Unger who holds a degree in engineering and business administration will head Corporate Finance, Accounting, Controlling, Tax and Insurance with effect from 01 August 2002. He succeeds Dr. A. Stefan Kirsten who is leaving the Metro Group effective 31 July 2002 at his own request. Unger’s previous appointment was that of Member of the Management Board and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of VAW Aluminium AG, Bonn. By appointing Unger to the Management Board of METRO AG the company has secured the services of an experienced CFO who is particularly well-versed in value-oriented corporate management (EVA system).

The Chairman of the Supervisory Board of METRO AG, Jan von Haeften, emphasized after the meeting: "In the person of Thomas Unger METRO AG has been able to secure the services of a recognized expert as its new Chief Financial Officer."

Dr. Hans-Joachim Körber, Chairman and CEO of METRO AG, commented that Thomas Unger would guarantee the continuity of communication between the Metro Group and the international capital markets thus continuing the company’s policy of transparency and openness especially vis-à-vis investors.
