Metro Group Helps Flood Victims on the Oder with Total of € 2.3 Million

Employee donation of € 1 million presented in Dresden

The Düsseldorf Metro Group is helping flood victims in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic with a donation totalling € 2.3 million.
Part of this total came together through donations by employees: The amount of almost € 500,000 raised by staff for the victims of the flood disaster was doubled by METRO AG. Representatives of group management and the group works council presented a cheque for the donation of € 1 million to the Prime Minister of Saxony, Prof. Dr. Georg Milbradt, in Dresden today.

He received the money on behalf of the organization "Sachsen helfen" (Helping Saxony) whose objective is to support the victims of the flood disaster in Saxony: "Sachsen helfen" raises funds, establishes contacts between donors and victims and coordinates support efforts.
In addition, the Metro Group made a total of € 500,000 available as immediate support for staff personally affected by the floods. All six sales divisions also received a budget of € 100,000 each to be able to take specific support measures quickly under their own discretion.
By way of its sales division Metro Cash & Carry the Metro Group also supported flood victims in Austria and the Czech Republic. The wholesale stores distributed goods worth € 150,000 in Austria and emergency supplies worth € 75,000 in the Czech Republic.
