METRO Group Presents 'Fascination: Retail Worlds'19.03.2004
For the first time, the Düsseldorfer METRO Group will be presenting a large-scale retail exhibition: "Fascination: Retail Worlds" can be seen from 12 May to 11 June 2004 at the Düsseldorfer Ehrenhof. The anniversaries of three Metro sales divisions serve as the occasion for the exhibition: Media Markt is celebrating its 25th birthday this year, Metro Cash & Carry wholesale stores will be 40 years old, and Kaufhof will be looking back at 125 years of company history.
Marco Polo and his explorations, the triumph of advertising, consumer trends in the 21st century: retailing is much more than buying and selling. That is the message of "Fascination: Retail Worlds". The Düsseldorf based architect, Detlef Look, designed a three-level pavilion – especially for the exhibition – with a total area of 1,800 m2, which will be located between the NRW-Forum and the museum kunst palast.
In the almost 1,000 m² exhibition, visitors will be led through five different theme worlds: internationality, quality assurance, advertising, logistics and sales worlds. Each will be presented in their own showrooms. Original exhibits and interactive displays make the fascination of retailing tangible for the visitors, and offer them many unique perspectives.
For example, the visitors can learn about the history of antique retailing methods and the retailing metropolises of the world, or even look behind the scenes of advertising. They can learn about the individual steps of the logistics chain, and can gain an impression of the history of shopping: Exhibits from the METRO Group archives, historical films and slide shows reflect the lifestyle of past decades. Even the future of retailing will be illuminated.
The exhibition can be visited from 12 May to 11 June 2004, and is open daily from 10am to 6pm. Admission is free.
