For a retail enterprise, expert property management is a significant factor for success. METRO Group Asset Management looks after the construction and management of properties used by the METRO Group and their sales divisions Metro Cash & Carry, Real, Extra, Media Markt, Saturn and Galeria Kaufhof. METRO Group Asset Management is one of the largest retail property management companies in Germany. It manages more than 750 properties in Europe. It also administrates over 70 center locations in Deutschland, Poland and Turkey.
A notable feature of the company is its interlacing of great realty expertise and specific retail know-how. The wide-ranging scope of activities extends from strategic location development across commercial, technical and infrastructural management, through to the integration of properties into the social and cultural life at the location. The internationally active company is thus able to provide the retail trade with long-term attractive space for showcasing themselves and their wares. The approximately 1,000 employees currently concentrate on sixteen countries: Germany, France, Greece, United Kingdom, Italy, Luxemburg, Morocco, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, and Hungary.
The main objective is to ensure the ongoing development of the properties and sustainably increase their value. To this end METRO Group Asset Management applies international standards for future-orientated retail property. Since 2004 the company has been running all the METRO Group’s realty activities. In Germany alone the company manages eight million square meters of floor space – put together this would cover an area larger than 1,100 football pitches.
Economic efficiency and ecological sustainability are not a contradiction for METRO Group Asset Management. Architects, engineers, economists, and real estate specialists work hand in hand to be accountable to both people and the environment. At an increasing number of locations the company is employing energy-saving building control systems, heating and ventilation system. A shopping square was opened in Turkey in 2007 that has one of Europe’s largest geothermic systems. At several other locations electricity is produced using photovoltaic systems.
