METRO Group intensifies internationalization of its logistics arm14.02.2005
In the framework of its consistently pursued internationalization strategy METRO Group proceeded to a restructuring of its logistics companies. From now on they will be managed by MGL METRO Group Logistics GmbH, Düsseldorf. MGL will in future offer logistics standards through its procurement logistics, warehouses and platforms for all 30 Metro countries. Former MDL METRO Group Distribution Logistics GmbH & Co. KG will change its name to MGL Warehousing. With its own truck fleet and warehouses, it will continue to provide services for the sales brands Real and Extra in Germany.
The new chairman of the MGL Board of Management is Frank Wiemer, so far managing director of MDL. The remaining members on the board of management are Reiner Ebling (Commercial, HR), Frank Körber (Regions Western/Eastern Europe) and Stephan Wohler (Region Asia). Dr. Wolfgang Prümper, the former chairman of the MGL Board of Management, has left the company. METRO Group thanks Dr. Prümper for his services and wishes him all the best for the future.
Reporting sales revenues of € 56.4 billion (2004) METRO Group is the third-largest trading and retailing group worldwide.
