• EBITA improves about 40%

According to preliminary figures Praktiker has increased sales from € 2.28 bn to € 2.33 bn in the first nine months of 2005. In total, sales of the METRO Group division Praktiker were up 2.4% compared to the corresponding period in 2004. Sales growth has shown an acceleration in the third quarter.

Praktiker's like-for-like sales in Germany came in on the level of previous year's first nine months. In the third quarter Praktiker achieved a 0.5% increase in German like-for-like sales despite a continuously challenging environment and against the considerable basis from last year's third quarter.

The international business continued to develop well. Sales rose from € 0.51 m. in the first nine months to € 0.57 m. This corresponds to an increase of 10.9%.

EBITA for the first nine months rose about 40%.

By the end of the quarter the store network comprised 342 outlets, thereof 277 in Germany and 65 in the international operations.

METRO Group is at present evaluating strategic options for Praktiker. These include a potential sale, an IPO as well as a continuation of Praktiker's operations as a part of METRO Group. In the course of this evaluation process, preliminary figures for the first nine months are being published today. This does not indicate that any decision has been made for any of the above mentioned options. The preliminary figures refer to Praktiker as a division of the METRO Group. In case Praktiker would leave the METRO Group the figures could deviate depending on the scope of the leaving unit.

METRO Group is one of the most important international retailing companies. In 2004 the group reached sales of € 56.4 billion. The company has a headcount of about 250,000 employees and operates around 2,400 locations in 30 countries.
