Joël Saveuse appointed Chairman of the Management Board of Real

Joël Saveuse (54) has been appointed Chairman of the Management Board of Real SB-Warenhaus GmbH, effective as of 1 September 2007. The experienced retail manager will be responsible for both Real’s domestic and international business. Andreas Riedel, who previously managed the German business, will leave the company at his own request.

Saveuse will further enforce the initiated repositioning in Germany and the selective expansion in Eastern Europe. The French retailer is a recognised industry expert and has comprehensive international experience, especially in hypermarket retailing. He was previously a member of the management board of Carrefour und was responsible for the European business. Prior to that he held top management positions at La Redoute and Metro Cash & Carry, where he was Country Manager for France and Germany.

Real will benefit from his comprehensive expertise in hypermarket retailing", said Zygmunt Mierdorf, Chairman of Real’s Supervisory Board. "We thank Andreas Riedel for his contribution, especially with regard to Real’s repositioning in Germany".

The operating business is performed by the sales brands which operate independently in the market: Metro/Makro Cash & Carry – world market leader in cash & carry wholesale, Real hypermarkets and Extra supermarkets, Media Markt and Saturn – market leader in consumer electronics centers in Europe, and Galeria Kaufhof department stores.
