METRO Group’s Supervisory Board determines new Management Board competencies. Frans Muller, as member of METRO Group’s Management Board, takes over as CEO at Metro Cash & Carry. Thomas Unger additionally assumes responsibility for METRO Group’s property portfolio and Zygmunt Mierdorf will also be responsible for procurement and logistics.

"By integrating the position of Metro Cash & Carry’s CEO into the Management Board of METRO Group and reorganising the competencies therein, we can strengthen the Group and thus lay the foundation for the further value-orientated development of the company", said Dr. Eckhard Cordes, CEO of METRO Group.

"We sincerely regret Thomas Hübner leaving Metro Cash & Carry. Under his management, Metro Cash & Carry grew outstandingly and extended its worldwide market leadership position sustainably. Therewith he contributed substantially to METRO Group’s international success. With Frans Muller we accomplish a smooth handover. Frans is a highly skilled, international Cash & Carry expert."

Frans Muller joined METRO Group in 1997 as Country Manager for Makro Cash & Carry in the Netherlands. Later, as board member of Metro Cash & Carry, he was responsible for the regions Eastern Europe and Russia, as well as Asia/Pacific. In 2005 the Dutchman took over as head of the central procurement company, MGB Metro Group Buying. In this role he joined the Management Board of METRO Group a year later and became also responsible for logistics.

METRO Group is one of the most important international retailing companies. In 2007 the group reached sales of about € 66 billion. The company has a headcount of some 290.000 employees and operates over 2,400 outlets in 31 countries. The operating business is performed by the sales brands which operate independently in the market: Metro/Makro Cash & Carry – world market leader in cash & carry wholesale, Real hypermarkets, Media Markt and Saturn – market leader in consumer electronics centers in Europe, and Galeria Kaufhof department stores.
